Baklava
NUT MIXTURE
Ingredients
1-1/2 cups almonds
4 cups pecans or walnuts
1 cup powdered sugar
2 Tbsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 cup margarine or butter
Directions
- Combine the above ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
DOUGH
Ingredients
1-1/2 cups margarine or butter
1 lb. filo dough
24 oz. jar Sue Bee Honey
Directions
- (Once the package of filo dough is opened, place a damp dish towel over unused layers so it won't dry out.)
- Butter a 15 x 10-inch baking pan.
- Line the prepared pan with 7 layers of filo dough, buttering every other filo before laying the next.
- Spread 1/3 of the nut mixture on filo.
- Cover with 6 layers of filo, again buttering every other layer.
- Spread another third of nut mixture over top layer of filo.
- Add another 6 filo layers, buttering every other filo.
- Spread remaining nut mixture over top filo layer.
- Finish layering and buttering remaining filo.
- Trim top layer of filo to 1/4 inch inside baking pan.
- Press all edges down with the back of a spoon.
- Butter top filo layer well.
- Cut the top layer only into a diamond shape and pour remaining butter over it.
- Bake 15 minutes at 400 degrees or until filo is brown and puffy.
- Remove from oven and pour Sue Bee Honey over top.
- Cool and carefully cut into 1 inch pieces.
